About Us

Bhakti Yoga Rishikesh is a project of ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness). We’re located in the footsteps of Himalayas, in the Yoga Capital of the World and one of the holiest locations in India. Rishikesh is known for its numerous ashrams and temples, and it has been attracting sincere spiritual seekers and yoga students for decades. Since the ancient times the sages and rishis have visited the Holy town to practice austerities and meditate in search of the ultimate goal of life – self-realization. The presence of the sacred river Ganga together with the surrounding Himalayas and the Holy vibrations creates an auspicious and purifying atmosphere for one’s spiritual journey.

In 1965, an Indian monk, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada, left India and arrived in New York to fulfil a mission of his spiritual teacher. By spreading the philosophy and practices of the ancient scriptures, he wanted to help people to refine their vision and perception of life and to connect with the Divine. Out of his genuine compassion he started the International Society for Krishna Consciousness in 1966 and before leaving this world in 1977, he started a spiritual revolution; established 108 temples, published 147 books and travelled around the world 14 times, among many other achievements.

In 1971 a young American man named Richard Slavin, inspired by his calling to search God, arrived in India having hitchhiked through Europe, Turkey, Afghanistan and Pakistan. His genuine seeking, including austere practices in Rishikesh and meeting of different teachers on different paths around India, led him to meet Srila Prabhupada. He was convinced after having all his questions cleared, and having finally found his Guru he was initiated by Srila Prabhupada in 1973. In 1986 he took the vows of sannyasa, and Richard Slavin is now known as HH Radhanath Swami, a well-known spiritual teacher whose message inspires millions of people around the world.

Bhakti Yoga Rishikesh is a project based on the vision and inspiration of HH Radhanath Swami. Among so many authentic and well-established yoga schools and institutions existing in Rishikesh, our aim is to nourish the practice of Bhakti in the Yoga Capital of the World and to encourage people to re-connect with the Higher knowledge within their hearts and to discover the Divinity within and in others.
